Calling all talented students. The Shark Tooth Talent Quest is on again. Do you have what it takes to amaze an audience? Are you a superstar in the making? Take to the stage with knife-throwing crocs, sleep-dancing sloths and singing seagulls. And that’s not to mention the headline act: Nora the Magnificent. But when Mischief McScruff teams up with his friends for a sea shanty gangster rap about the Hungry Hairy Sea Monster, talent quickly turns to TERROR! Prepare to clap, cheer, shout and scream in the Scallywags’ third tremendous adventure. “If you read only one book this year make sure it’s the new best-seller from what’s-his-name. Whatever you do, stay right away from Scallywags and the Hungry Hairy Sea Monster. It is a silly, silly book with silly, silly characters who say silly, silly things. On the silliness scale it rates a super-silly five-out-of-five tap dancing carrots.” Nora Nibblesworth (AKA Nora the Magnificent) WARNING: This book contains references to rotten bananas. Book 3 in the Scallywags series by the award-winning author of the Pie Rats series.

* Scallywags and the Hungry Hairy Sea Monster is the third instalment in the internationally award-winning Scallywags series (2018 awards include the American Fiction Awards - Juvenile Fiction, and the New York City Big Book Award - Children's Humour.) * The release is fresh off the back of the national Summer Reading Club program in which the Scallywags series is profiled and Author Cameron Stelzer is guest blogger. * As an Australian Author visiting schools, Cameron enjoys writing about topics that children find interesting. Talent quests are a popular topic in schools, and Cameron generates a lot of fun, action and excitement on this theme. Children in primary school are going to read this book as it is fun, engaging and has unique characters which relate to larger pirate 'teams'. * The illustrations set this book apart. Throughout the book are detailed pencil illustrations with shading and rendering, and sometimes a touch of watercolour. Children are excited about the texture, and how this work brings the characters to life in a different way to books on the market. * Teacher resources are available. This book took two years to create. Inspiration for the book: After completing his Doctorate of Visual Arts, Cameron began working at the Natural History Museum in London. It was here that Cameron began writing and illustrating stories inspired by the animals in the museum. He has been writing and illustrating stories featuring anthropomorphic characters ever since. Scallywags and the Hungry Hairy Sea Monster is set at a crazy school for pirates (who are also animals). The inspiration for Scallywags and the Hungry Hairy Sea Monster stemmed from the combination of four real life events. They are listed below in the order they occurred in Cameron's life. The first event happened when he was eight years old. The last one happened when he was twenty-five! 1. Dressing up in seaweed and trying to scare his parents during a visit to the beach. 2. Performing a magic act with his brother at our grandparent’s house. 3. Squelching through waist-deep mud to reach an island in the middle of the Burnett River. 4. Discovering an unusual creature during a visit to Scotland. Hear from Cameron about the development of his stories at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83RKWpxxg7U&feature=share
