Exercise in later life is important for health and well-being, yet motivating older adults to exercise can be difficult. This book addresses that need by tailoring "The Transtheoretical Model" (TTM) of behaviour change to the client's level of readiness for change. The model has been used successfully with a variety of problem behaviours ranging from smoking cessation to weight management. Here, the contributors show how it can be used to help older adults with varying needs and abilities to change their exercise behaviours. The TTM helps people change by tailoring interventions to stages of change, helping people to identify their reasons for not changing, and empowering them to make the changes themselves. Case examples are used throughout to illustrate application of the TTM model.
