In recent years retrieval practice has continued to grow in prominence and interest - an evidence-informed effective teaching and learning strategy that supports all learners. After extensive reading, engaging with research and working with schools, Kate Jones has written a guide that explores how retrieval practice can work in a primary school context. The book begins with research then focuses on classroom application, covering curriculum design, task and question design with retrieval practice and how to embed retrieval practice as part of the language of learning across the wider school community. This is an essential read for teachers and leaders at all levels looking to effectively embed retrieval practice in their primary classroom.
Kate Jones is an experienced classroom teacher and leader, having taught since 2010 in the UK and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Kate has now returned to the UK to work with schools to focus on effectively implementing and embedding retrieval practice across the primary and secondary curriculum. Professor John Hattie refers to Kate as a 'translator of educational research for teachers'. In September 2022 Kate will be taking on the role of Senior Associate for Teaching and Learning with Evidence Based Education. In addition to teaching and leading CPD, Kate has authored various books with John Catt Educational including the Retrieval Practice collection and The Teaching Life: Professional Learning and Career Progression. Kate is active on social media @KateJones_Teach and regularly writes for educational magazines such as the TES and HWRK magazine. Kate hosts The Love To Teach Podcast and is an ambassador for the charity Winston's Wish, which aims to give hope to grieving children.
