In 1986, Scott Bischke and Katie Gibson cut loose from their everyday routine in Colorado and headed Down Under to explore and experience New Zealand from the seat of a bicycle. Their goal was simple: to immerse themselves in a land and its people, to become a part of New Zealand, not just pass through it. During the course of their 8,000 kilometer odyssey, Scott and Katie sampled much of New Zealand's (and a bit of Australia's) bounty. Their freewheeling travels took them from tramping, canoeing, and fly fishing for monster trout to caving, scuba diving, and picking kiwifruit as transient laborers. And, of course, there were the Kiwis, with their rich sense of humor and indomitable spirit, always ready with a happy "Gidday" and a helping hand for a couple of Yank travelers. Theirs was a journey of discovery, both as individuals and as a couple. They shared the joys of exploration and new friendships, as well as the frustrations that come with biking over challenging terrain and living in a two-person tent. TWO WHEELS AROUND NEW ZEALAND is a lighthearted adventure story; but above all it is a celebration of the people, landscape, and lifestyle of New Zealand.
