Principal to Principal: Conversations in Servant Leadership, is an expanded edition of the original, published by Rowman and Littlefield in 2008. The book tells the story of a recently retired principal (John), who walks a first year principal (Linda) through her first year in serving a school. Chapter by chapter, John wisely mentors, as Linda vents, cries, listens, and learns--experiencing what it's really like down in the trenches as an authentic servant leader.
Rocky Wallace came to Campbellsville University in the fall of 2018 to help develop the school's graduate education leadership program. He has previously been involved in similar work for Asbury University and Morehead State University, developing and teaching courses for aspiring school administrators. Wallace is a former school principal of a Kentucky And U.S. Blue Ribbon School (Catlettsburg Elementary), served in the Highly Skilled Educator leadership program at the Kentucky Department of Education, and as Director of Instructional Support and Adult Education at the Kentucky Educational Development Corporation.
"Dr. Wallace's book is just what educational leaders (and followers) need to wisely address the challenges in today's schools. The book is inspirational, practical, informative, and filled with wisdom."--Quentin Schultze, Dr., author of Communicate Like a True Leader and Servant Teaching "Principal to Principal is a must read for all current school administrators and for all educators who aspire to be educational leaders. Dr. Rocky Wallace offers a common sense approach to school leadership with a focus on the value of servant leadership. The emphasis on core values and the authentic dialogue that occurs between a new administrator and a mentoring veteran administrator outline the importance of adhering to a strong set of principles in leading school improvement. I found this easy to read book to be uplifting, encouraging, worthwhile, and practical. 10 out of 10!"--Carrie Ballinger, Dr., Superintendent, Rockcastle Co. (Kentucky) Schools "Principal to Principal: Conversations in Servant Leadership and School Transformation has been an invaluable resource for pre-service administrators in my program. The intricate mix of servant leadership lessons and best practices seen in successful schools, woven into a real-life storyline featuring a school leader with whom we all can empathize, simply sets the stage for rich conversations and skill development. It is a "must read" for aspiring educational leaders."--David Young, Executive Director and CEO, Central Kentucky Education Cooperative "Using lessons learned by a seasoned school principal on the verge of passing the torch to his successor, Principal to Principal needs a guaranteed spot on every principal's professional bookshelf. The inspiring text spotlights the power of core values and convictions as a potent pathway to school improvement. While it is a quick read, the insights and authentic takeaways will have long-lasting impact on the practice of those who read this book."--Stacy Bryant Noah, Leadership Specialist, Kentucky Department of Education
