The purpose of this book is to catalyze a conversation between Cognitive Scientists and Educators. Toward that end, we need a shared vocabulary. This book will introduce you to 48 commonly used terms from Cognitive Science.

Robert Hausmann (a.k.a. “Dr. Bob”) grew up in the corn fields of Ohio. His parents were both teachers at a community college, and his best friend’s parents were professors of psychology and computer science at the local university.

Given these influences, Dr. Bob was destined to become a cognitive scientist with a passion for education. While working on his PhD at the University of Pittsburgh, he met Dr. Robert Glaser and was intrigued by something he said. Dr. Glaser wanted educators and cognitive scientists to speak a shared vocabulary.

Cognitive science is admittedly an esoteric field of study, with its own unique lingo. Dr. Bob saw the utility in helping teachers understand the findings from cognitive science to improve the quality of education; therefore, he took up the goal that Dr. Glaser laid out for his students so many years ago.

This book is an attempt to make that goal a reality, catalyzing conversations between cognitive scientists and educators and aiming to create a virtuous feedback loop between researchers and practitioners.
