Crossing the Dead Heart is a classic narrative of modern exploration - and follows the first crossing of the Simpson desert by the author in 1939. From Charlotte Waters Madigan travelled by camel, camping at Andado Bore before heading east through the centre of the desert to Birdsville, then south by Goyder's Lagoon to the eastern shores of Lake Eyre, then finally to the railway at Maree. Illustrated with the author's photographs from this trip - this is a great book for the grey nomads looking to find Central Australia.
Born in Renmark, South Australia, Madigan was part of the Australian Antarctic Expedition of 1911-1914. In 1929 he carried out aerial reconnaissance of Central Australia and let an expedition to Lake Eyre. His most important work, CENTRAL AUSTRALIA will soon be out from ETT Imprint. Madigan died in 1947.
