This memoir by Nurse Jean Finlayson is about her life ministering for those in remote centres of Central Australia, from Oonadatta to Alice Springs during World War One. She was a close friend of the Reverend John Flynn and Reverend Harland of Oonadatta, whose photographs enhance her memories.
Jean Finlayson was a Presbyterian deaconess and nurse, trained in Melbourne, Victoria. She travelled to Oodnadatta in South Australia in 1914 to take up the position of nursing sister for the Australian Inland Mission. Once a replacement was found for her, she set out on the 520 k journey by buggy in August 1915. She aided Reverend John Flynn with his Australian Inland Mission.
* First published in 1925, this book sheds light on remote living 1914-1921, and is augmented by photographs by Reverend Harland of life at Oonadatta.
